Heating Boiler Repair: Finding Out Why You Can't Adjust The Temp On Your Boiler

by Carlos Sullivan

There are three types of boilers: gas, electric, and oil. When you need to adjust the heat requirements, there are ways to turn up the heat or turn down the heat. When you cannot get the temperature to rise, and it is consistently getting colder within your living or workspace, you need to find out why.

Oil Burning Boilers

Oil-burning boilers are probably the easiest to figure out. There should be a knob on the side of the main boiler tank. Just turn it up and you should feel everything getting warmer within the next hour. You can monitor the progress of the boiler at work by checking the temperature gauge every twenty minutes or so. You should see a nice steady climb upwards.

If it is not working, there may be something wrong with the knob or with the flow of heating oil. An HVAC technician can cut the flow of fuel and power to open up the boiler and check internally. It is more than likely a simple fix.

Electric Boilers

Electric boilers are the second easiest type of boiler on which to control heat. You have to turn off the electricity that feeds the boiler, then take off the plate that covers the thermostat. There should be an inlet or screw dial there that you can turn either direction to increase or decrease the heat. Then put the cover back on and turn the power back on.

If the electric boiler does not produce heat, there may be something amiss with the thermostat. With electric boilers, the problem is almost always electrically-related. Since you do not want to mess with anything electrical and risk shock or death, be sure to call a company like Moorhead Machinery & Boiler Co. for help.

Gas Boilers

With gas boilers, you may be quite out of luck with adjusting the temperature. Many gas boilers only have one adjustment switch: gas turned off and gas turned on. Since there is no way to control how much or how little gas the boiler gets, a gas boiler is essentially broken if it does not produce heat. In this case, you may need an entirely new boiler. (Only an HVAC technician could tell you for sure.) Consider getting an oil-burning boiler for its ease of use.

Call for Help to Be Safe

While there are certainly some things you can do to "fix" your chilly boiler, not all of them are safe. It is always best to leave boiler repairs and troubleshooting to the professionals. Considering the cost of hospital bills for a boiler accident far exceed the expense of a service call, it is worth it.

The Ultimate Automobile Manufacturing Guide

My name is Ross Harper and I've always been interested in automobile manufacturing. I think it's amazing how cars and trucks are made and I've actually learned about this process by doing research about automobile manufacturing companies. You'll learn a ton of information in my blog, such as the history of automobile manufacturing and how these industries help the economy. You'll also learn about the assembly of automobiles, which includes stamping, welding, painting and the inspection of the new vehicles. In addition, you'll find out how automobile manufacturers place the interior components inside the vehicles. After reading my blog, you'll understand what it takes to manufacture a vehicle and how important this process is to everyone.
